Agatha Q. Todd, age 95, of 106 Arrowood Lane passed away Sunday, Feb. 4th, 2018 at her home in Laurens. She was the widow of John Wells Todd III.
Born in Holly, NY, Agatha was the daughter of the late Joseph Quette and Anna Troupo Hurry. She spent her youth in Pittsfield, MA and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She moved to New York City as a young adult where she worked for several major companies. During World War II, she met a young Lt. Commander in the Navy who was on shore leave. Agatha and John Wells were married on Feb. 24, 1945 in Norfolk, VA. They were stationed in San Francisco for two years until the war ended. Following the war, they moved to John Wells’ home town of Laurens, SC.
Agatha was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, a Founding Member of the Laurens Hospital Auxiliary and the Laurens Little Theatre. She was a charter member of the Laurens Cotillion.
Surviving are her children, Ann Todd Free and her husband, James C. Free, of Washington, DC, and John Wells Todd IV of Laurens.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her step-father, Joseph Allin Hurry; a brother, Frank Quette of Orangeburg; and a sister, Arlene Carpenter of Pittsburg, PA.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 6th at 11:00 A.M., by Rev. Dr. Carol Byrd at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Laurens, 400 W. Main St., Laurens, SC 29360.
