Alexander Cruickshanks III age 95 of 104 Pinehurst Dr. passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 2015 at the Hospice of Laurens County.
He was born in Washington, DC and was a son of the late Alexander Cruickshanks, Jr. and the late Ruth Money Cruickshanks.
Mr. Cruickshanks was a graduate of Presbyterian College where he served as Student Body President. As a professor of economics, he began that career at his alma mater before moving to accept a position at the University of Florida and later at Central Florida where he taught until his retirement. He was a long time member and officer of the Lions Club in Alachua, Florida where he received many distinguished awards. He proudly served as a deacon and elder of the Presbyterian Church in Alachua and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. Mr. Cruickshanks was a member of the Copeland-Davidson Post 56 of the American Legion in Clinton. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the European Theater during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Adair King Cruickshanks of the home; a son, Alexander “Sandy” Cruickshanks IV and wife, Rhonda of Clinton; three grandchildren, Alexander Cruickshanks V (Chrissy), Michael William Cruickshanks (Carla), Catherine C. Page (Brandon); a sister-in-law, Harriett Cruickshanks of Columbus, OH and seven great grandchildren, Brendan William Cruickshanks, Ashlyn Bryson Cruickshanks, Riley Jordan Page, Alexandria Ruth Cruickshanks, EmmaGrace Alice Cruickshanks, Braxton Michael Cruickshanks and Briggston Merritt Cruickshanks.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Pinelawn Memory Garden in the Mausoleum Chapel with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at the Mausoleum Chapel.
