Amon Meeks Shumate, Jr. age 89 of 125 Pine St, Lydia and the widower of Helen Harvey Shumate passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17th, 2014 at Hospice House of Laurens County.
He was born in Ninety Six, SC and was a son of the late Amon Meeks Shumate, Sr. and the late Jessie Phillips Shumate.
Mr. Shumate retired from Clinton Mills and then enjoyed working part-time at Clinton True-Value Hardware for 17 years. He was a member of the Lydia Baptist Church and a US Navy veteran of WWII.
Surviving are his son, Harvey Shumate of Hanahan; a daughter, Denise Barker of Laurens; two sisters, Iris Owens of Lyman and Louise McDonald of Hartsville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 22nd at 2:00 PM at the Lydia Baptist Church with burial in the Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
