Anna Frances Archer Dixon

Anna Frances Archer Dixon, 100, of Macon, GA, passed away surrounded by family on March 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, quick wit, and a life dedicated to family, service, and lifelong learning.

Frances was born on July 12, 1924, in Clarksdale, MS, to James and Jessie Archer. She grew up in College Park, GA, and pursued her education at Georgia State College for Women before graduating from the University of Georgia. She was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

On January 2, 1945, Frances married Henry Dixon, and together they traveled during his service in the Army Air Corps. They eventually settled in Athens, GA, before making Macon their home.

Frances built a meaningful career with the Department of Family and Children Services, retiring as a caseworker principal. She was a devoted member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities over the years. Committed to service and community, she was a former member of the Junior Women’s Club, the Macon Service League, and Macon’s Friendship Force. She was also a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Beyond her dedication to family and service, Frances embraced the joys of life. She loved dancing, playing bridge, attending the theatre, and traveling the world with loved ones. She never missed her daily crossword—completed in pen (though erasable, just in case) and did not let time pass her by without learning something new—including making sure she learned how use her latest iPhone and Zoom. Above all, she loved and supported her family with an unwavering heart.

Frances is survived by her children, Dr. Anna Hatten (Jean), Dr. Richard Dixon (J. Lynne), and Carole Dixon (Carl Kitchens), along with four grandchildren: John Haywood (Jessica), Hank Haywood, Bethany Parker (Jesse), and Paul Dixon. Her great-grandchildren are Rain Haywood, Kyla Haywood, and Bo Haywood. She also leaves behind countless dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at Presbyterian Communities in Clinton, SC, on Thursday, March 27, at 10:00 AM. Another service will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church in Macon in September.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204, or that you honor Frances by enjoying a game of bridge, a night at the theatre, or simply spending time with the people you love—just as she would have wanted.
