Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Patterson

Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Brown Patterson, widow of William L. (Billy) Patterson, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community.
She was born August 13, 1927 in Starr, SC and was the daughter of the late Walter T. Brown and Mamie Shirley Brown. Her brother Marshall L. Brown predeceases her.
Mrs. Patterson attended the schools of Starr, SC and graduated from Townville High School in 1944. A 1948 graduate of Lander College, she served two years on the Student Council and was crowned May Queen during her senior year. She was very active in the local Lander alumni association. She taught third grade in the Laurens City School System for three years during which time she met and married Mr. Patterson on December 22, 1949.
Mrs. Patterson was a full-time homemaker who enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, reading, and playing the piano. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Laurens where she served in various capacities including her membership in United Methodist Women. She especially enjoyed volunteering in the nursery. Mrs. Patterson was also a member of the Wednesday Club for several years .
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dave (Ann) Clites of Alexandria, VA and Patrice Abernethy of Forest City, NC; three sons, Lawrence Patterson, Walter Patterson, and Van Patterson, all of Laurens; and ten grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, August 26th at 1:00 p.m. in the Laurens City Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the Laurens First United Methodist Church with visitation following the service at the Church.
