Bernard "Bernie" Albert Schardt

Bernard “Bernie” A. Schardt, 87, of 284 Country Lane, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at his home.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio and was the son of the late Albert Schardt and Helen Yager. In addition to his parents Mr. Schardt was predeceased by his wife Dianne Prater Schardt.
Mr. Schardt started with N.Y. Central Rail Road and retired from Conrail with forty four years of service in the rail road industry.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas Schardt of Toledo, Ohio and Todd Schardt of Maumee, Ohio; two daughters, Diane Vogt of Maumee, Ohio and Cheryl Papenfus of Curtice, Ohio; his nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way, Emma Catherine Papenfus.
In addition to his wife and parents he is predeceased by a brother, Paul Schardt, two sisters, Ruth Swartz Roth and Teresa Wisniewski.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 3 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens County, P.O. Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325, or Epworth United Methodist Church of Joanna.
The family would like thank all for their wonderful love and support in this difficult time, and would like to offer a very special thanks to Jeannie and Elaine for their special love and care of Bernie.
