Mrs. Bernice England Gouge, a resident of Clinton, South Carolina, and a former resident of Marion, Morganton, and Connelly Springs, North Carolina, passed away in the early hours of January 1, 2019, after a period of declining health.
A native of McDowell County, NC, and the daughter of the late Willie M. and Lula E. England, Mrs. Gouge was born on October 3, 1928. She was a graduate of Marion High School and in 1994 retired after 36 years of service with Bank of America.
A Memorial service for Mrs. Gouge will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 301 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC, where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, NC. Surviving family members include two sons, Dr. Edward M. Gouge (Diane) of Clinton, SC, and Mr. Joseph L. Gouge (Robyn) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a daughter-in-law, Ms. Connie C. Gouge of Marion, NC; five grandchildren, Jennifer Sasser, Amy Washburn (Joe), Andrea Burgin (Clay), and Jordan and Kacey Gouge; six great grandchildren, Maggie Gouge, McCauley and Max Sasser, and Chase, Colton, and Caleb Burgin; a brother-in-law, Rev. Barry Gouge (Mary) of Marion. Mrs. Gouge was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Ralph P. Gouge, and one son, Mr. Stephen R. Gouge.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the care and concern shown to Mrs. Gouge by the administration and staff of Woodbridge Clinton and Presbyterian Community of Clinton where she lived.
