Betty Jean Worthy

February 22, 1933 — November 6, 2022

Betty Jean Worthy age 89, and the widow of William Worthy passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Columbia Heart peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born in Charlotte, NC and was a daughter of the late Roy A. Gaddis and Mabel Wilbanks Gaddis. She was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens, and a child care giver to the community of Whitmire for many years best known by all her children that came though her as “BB”. She was a member of the Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church as well as a member of the Ladies Ministry. She enjoyed spending time with her family, seeing the children and their children that she had in her home, she enjoyed rides through town by car or golf cart, and always loved her trips to eat at Dempsey’s. She will be remembered for her loving smile, kind caring ways, and her wit where she met no stranger.
Mrs. Worthy was a member of the Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church and enjoyed babysitting the children around the Whitmire Community.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Eugene Worthy of Whitmire, William Allen Worthy of Columbia; a sister, Frances Elaine Bradburn of Moore; she was blessed with four grandchildren, Wanda Livingston (Travis) of Pomaria, Christy Brown (Michael) of Newberry, Michael Worthy (Codee) of Lexington, and Shawn Worthy of West Columbia; her six great-grandchildren, Brady Livingston of Newberry, Ryan Livingston of Pomaria, Alana and Waylin Brown of Newberry, Easton Worthy of West Columbia, and Caden Worthy of Lexington; a special daughter/daughter-in-law, Doris S. Worthy of Newberry; and nephew, Claude (Fatbaby) Worthy of Whitmire.
In addition to her parents and husband William that she shared her life of 63 years with, she was predeceased by two sons, Darrel Wayne Worthy and Thomas Bruce Worthy; a daughter/daughter-in-law Betty S. Worthy; and her brother, Richard, D. Gaddis.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 3 PM at the Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to take place at the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire.
The family will be at her home, 41 Church Street, Whitmire, SC 29178.
