Bobby Doran Simmons, 84, of Clinton, SC passed away November 11, 2016 at the McCall Hospice House of Simpsonville, SC.
Bobby was born November 20, 1931 in Laurens, SC, of Barney and Kathleen Simmons. He was a graduate of Laurens High School and Presbyterian College where he earned his BS Degree in Business. Soon afterwards he joined the US Army serving as a lieutenant for two years. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked as Manager of Southern Bell until his retirement. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years and also held title of President of Gideon’s International touching many lives with his inspirational speeches and time spent distributing bibles. He loved his family and friends so very much and enjoyed his time on the golf course.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Garrett Simmons, his two children, Donna S. Hester and husband, Mitch Hester, Sr., Glenn W. Simmons and his wife Karen Simmons along with 6 grandchildren, Alex Steven Woodell, Blake Simmons, Cory Simmons, Jacob Simmons, Mitch Hester, Jr. and Sarah Hester, in addition, he had 6 great grandchildren, Lindsey Simmons, Lauren Simmons, Brantley Pemberton, Ali Pemberton, Kendall Simmons and Chloe Simmons. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend!
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at The First Baptist Church, 301 S. Broad Street, Clinton, SC and a celebration of his life will be held in the sanctuary at 2 p.m., followed by a graveside service with military honors at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 765 E. Main Street, Laurens, SC.
