Carl Young Culbertson, Jr., age 88, who resided in Asheville, NC and previously in Louisville, KY passed away on June 11, 2008 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville.
He grew up in Laurens, SC, the son of Blanche and Carl Culbertson. He served in World War II and the Korean War. During WWII, he met his wife of 40 years, Tina, in Italy. Tina preceded him in death in 1986. They raised a family of 3 children in Laurens and Clinton. He is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Giannasso of Asheville and Phyllis Culbertson of Winston-Salem, NC and a son, Harold Culbertson of Spartanburg, SC; 2 granddaughters, Stephanie Page of Boiling Springs and Michelle Thomas of Rocky Mount, NC; 2 great granddaughters, Alaynie Page and Ashlen Thomas and two great grandsons, Chasen Thomas and Taylor Bradley all of Boiling Springs, SC.
After serving his country in 2 tours of active military duty, Carl joined Liberty Life Insurance Company as an agent and became a manager retiring in 1978. Carl was a loving husband and father whose heart was grounded in the Baptist Church. He was a sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and all aspects of outdoor life. Carl never met a stranger and was liked by all who came to know him.
A service will be held on Saturday, June 14th at the Gray Funeral Home with visitation and viewing from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a brief service at 2:30 p.m. in Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Laurens and finally a military burial at Union Baptist Church Cemetery; Ekom Community (between Laurens and Ware Shoals).
