Catherine Dunaway Young

 Catherine Dunaway Young, age 89, of Clinton, SC, wife of Allen Young, Sr., passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Hospice of Laurens County. 

 Born November 16, 1934 in Clinton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Brooks Fowler and Cloa Lawson Dunaway. Catherine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Allen Young, Sr.; her son, Allen “AL” Young, Jr. (Debby) of Clinton; her daughter, Cathy Young Howe (Douglas) of Cross Hill; her grandchildren, Brooks Andrew Young (Karen), Sara Helen Moody (Nate), and Kari Alene Young; one great grandchild, Charlotte Young. Additionally, Catherine is survived by her sister, LeJune Cantrell (Buddy) of Joanna.

 Catherine had a profound love for music and dedicated 42 years of her life to teaching others how to play the organ and piano. Her passion for music extended beyond the classroom, as she served as the organist for Gray Funeral Home for over 40 years. A faithful member of Hurricane Baptist Church, Catherine was also its organist for 63 years.

  In addition to her musical career, Catherine worked as a bookkeeper and draftsman for Joe Bonds Construction. She was deeply involved in her community, serving as a past president of the Joanna Lion’s Club and as District Governor 32D for Lion's Club International. 

  Funeral Services will be held Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 at Hurricane Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jake Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church.

 The family will be at the home, 214 Double A Trail, Clinton, SC 29235.
