Celia Miriam “Susta” Gasque passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was surrounded by her nephew, Jim Gasque and his wife Deana Gasque, and her nieces, Marci Cook, Ame Gasque, Ashley Gasque and her husband Levon Van Camp in her last days. She had many dear and loved grand nieces and nephews - Ramsey Cook, Ellison Cook, Reeves Gasque, Thomas Gasque, Claudia Holcombe, Virginia Holcombe, and nephew-in-law, Kevin Cook.
Celia was born and grew up in Clinton, South Carolina and graduated from Clinton High School and Columbia College. From her first job as a teacher in Charleston, SC, she spent most of her career in the fashion industry working for Levi’s, Wrangler, and more as one of their first woman sales representatives, winning many awards for her successes from each company. So many women have commented on appreciating Celia’s breaking the glass ceiling for those who followed her as women professionals and executives.
She was an avid traveler and explorer whenever she had the chance, with trips to Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, as well as all over the US. But her favorite place in the entire world was the family lake house at Lake Greenwood.
The family would like to thank Celia’s dear friends who were able to help care for her in the last few months, including Barbara Bilek, Amelia Nichols, Barbara Crandell, and Lillie Fuller. Their love and care for Celia will be forever remembered and appreciated.
The family will hold a celebration of her life at another time.
In lieu of flowers, she felt very strongly about saving animals and their habitats. Please donate in her name to your favorite organization. Her favorite cause was Borneo Orangutan Survival and the Save the Orangutan Foundation.
