Charles Layton Compton of 106 Leftbank Court died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Laurens. Born January 21, 1947 in West Palm Beach, Florida, he was a graduate of Wofford College where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was a graduate of Mercer School of Law. Chuck was a U.S. Army veteran, a former Mason, served on the S.C. Wildlife and Marine Board, was a past President of Laurens Rotary Club,a past President and board member of the Laurens County Hospital and was also an attorney at law with the McAlister Compton and McAlister.
He served as a Trustee Officer at the Palmetto Bank and was the CEO and President of the Saluda River Cooperative and New Horizon Electric.
Chuck was the son of the late Layton Burbridge and Elizabeth White Compton and is survived by his wife, Jane Chandlee Compton; a son, Carrigan Compton and his wife, Nilsa of Charleston and their children, Sophia and Nyomi; two daughters, Patricia Mahon and her husband, Bryan of Laurens and their children, Layton and Preston; and Mariana Regalbuto and her husband, Mark of Charleston and his children, Cate Clare and Charlie.
The family will receive friends at the home, 106 Leftbank Court. A private family memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Laurens County, P.O. Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325 or to National Alliance on Mental Illness of SC, P.O. Box 1267, Columbia, SC 29202.
