Charles Randall "Bear" Payton

Charles Randall “Bear” Payton, age 66, passed away, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
He was born on June 26, 1957, in Abbeville County, South Carolina and was the son of the late Woodrow Scott and Flora Reedy Boles Payton and stepfather, James Witon Payton. Bear was retired from Austin Industrial in Piedmont as a welder. He loved the outdoors; especially hunting and fishing.
Bear is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bakley; his son, Jonathan Randall Payton; his brother, Donnie Payton (Sarah) of Iva; and his sister, Jennie Dixon of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wilton Henry “Rooster” Payton; and his two sisters, Genelle Ethridge and Bonnie Provan.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens with Rev. Roger Dale Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615
