Charles Fenton Ayres

Charles Fenton Ayres, died Friday, October 19, 2007, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, Laurens, S.C., after a long illness.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, October 28, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Martha Franks Retirement Center, Rasor Chapel, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC.

Charles was born August 31, 1923 in Penn Yan, New York, to David B. Ayres, Sr. and Esther Guile Ayres.

Charles attended Peddie School, Hightstown, NJ, and graduated from Geneva High School, class of 1943. He attended Syracuse University and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. Charles spent most of his working career in the credit department of Sears Roebuck & Company, in Honolulu, Hawaii. At his retirement he moved back to Geneva, New York to care for his mother and her sister, Ruth Guile.

After the death of his Mother and Aunt he relocated to Kure Beach, NC and then the Martha Franks Retirement Center to be close to his bother.

Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was always involved in all the larger activities, beach vacations, Christmas and other holidays of the Ayres family. Uncle Chuck was the “FUN” uncle. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother David last year.

He is survived by sister-in-law, Margaret C. Ayres; nieces and nephew, Barbra Jones of Winston-Salem, NC; Jane Hannon (Vic) of Camden, SC; David B. Ayres, III of Advance, NC and Cece Boyne (Bud) of Beaufort, SC; and six grandnieces and nephews.
