Charles Thomas “Buddy” Oakley, Sr., age 77, of 103 Holly St. died Wednesday, September 24, 2008.
He was born in Clinton, SC and was a son of the late Sidney Oakley and Bessie Mae Smith Oakley.
Mr. Oakley was a graduate of Clinton High School and was the owner and operator of the Center Service Station. He served in the S.C. National Guard and retired as Captain from the U.S. Army Reserves. He was also a member of the Laurens County Shrine Club, a former Democratic Party Chairman for Laurens County, a former Laurens County Magistrate and State Constable and was on the Board of Directors at Patriots Point in Charleston.
He was predeceased by his wife, Christine Power Oakley and a daughter, Christy Oakley.
Surviving are one son, Charles T. “Tommy” Oakley of Clinton; a daughter, Susan Oakley Low of Lexington; three grandsons, Charles T. “Trey” Oakley, III, Matthew L. Low and Christopher Shaver; two granddaughters, Kristina Marie Oakley and Kristen Sanders.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with interment in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home.
