Christine (Chris) Oakley Edwards

August 10, 1946 — August 17, 2022

Christine (Chris) Oakley Edwards, age 76, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at National Health Care of Clinton. She was born August 10, 1946 in Latrobe, PA and was a daughter of the late Walter W. Oakley, Jr. and the late Marjorie Eaton Oakley.

Chris spent her childhood summers in the Finger Lakes region of NY or in the North Georgia mountains. She briefly attended Brevard College in NC and lived in Chicago, IL before settling in Upstate SC. In 1970 Chris met the love of her life, Cecil J. Edwards, and they married in 1973. During almost 49 years of marriage, Chris and Cecil have been an admired example of dedication to each other and their marriage – true lovebirds all these years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Penny S. Edwards; her granddaughter, Skyler S. Green; her stepchildren, Jerry Edwards and Anita Edwards; and her siblings, Pat Hardwick and Phil Oakley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter W. Oakley, III and her sister, Barbara Zeiferts.

Known by many as ‘Teen or Mrs. Christine, Chris possessed an unrivaled spunk and determination of spirit. She was able to lighten the weight on people’s shoulders with just a smile or by sticking out her tongue. Aside from her husband, the loves of her life included the beach and its music, the pets she had throughout her life, a rare steak or boiled shrimp with ketchup, a glass (or two) of wine or soda, and Whitman’s chocolate. Despite her health issues and life’s tribulations, Chris kept her smile and shared many lessons with her daughter, stepchildren, grandchildren, and all those who loved her. Her memory will continue to shine.
