Claude Hughes Burns age 69, of 2502 Mountville Road, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
He was born in Mountville and was a son of the late Milton Herbert and Janie Coates Burns.
Mr. Burns was a retired employee of Crown Home Furnishings Company. He was a member of the Mountville Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Superintendant, Men’s Bible Class Teacher and Church Treasurer.
He served as Past Master of Cross Hill Masonic Lodge #159 A.F.M. and 40 year member. He was the former Fire Chief and volunteer of the Mountville Fire Department and was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, Clinton Unit.
Mr. Burns is survived by his wife, Virginia Mode Burns of the home; a son, Christopher Hughes Burns and wife, Jamie Lynn of Fountain Inn; a granddaughter, Jessica Leann Beard; a sister, Myra Burns Young of Mountville; a brother, Milton Herbert Burns of Mountville; and a brother-in-law, Paul Mode of Joanna.
He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Burns Coleman.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 23rd at 3:00 p.m.
in the Mountville Baptist Church with burial in the Mountville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
