Colonel Harry Franklin Lowman, Jr., died January 19, 2009 at 89 years of age. He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Harry Franklin Lowman and Elizabeth Minetree Lowman.
He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA, and then served thirty-three years in the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed around the world in a variety of assignments, completing his career as the Defense Attaché to Colombia, South America. After retirement, he was active for many years in civic affairs. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, S.C.
Colonel Lowman was married to Harriette Caperton Lowman of Washington, D.C. until her death in December of 1992. He is survived by five children, Blake G. Lowman of Prosperity, S.C., Lawrence M. Lowman of Fort Mill, S.C., Harriette C. Lowman of Seattle, WA, Harry F. Lowman III of Chapin, S.C., and Gordon D. Lowman of Matthews, N.C. A sixth child, Katherine Turner is deceased.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Home Chapel, 801 Musgrove Street in Clinton on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
