Danny Cordell Gilliam, age 75, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at Prisma Health Richland Heart Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1946 in Whitmire, SC and was the son of the late James Cordell Gilliam and Jesse Virginia Garmon Gilliam.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by his wife, Lyn Gilliam of the home; his children, Amy Thomas (Jed) of Summerville, Brooke Matthews (Neil) of Batesburg, Dustin McKee of Union, Ryan Gilliam (Amber) of Little Mountain, Lyndsay Gilliam of Little Mountain, Miller Gilliam of Little Mountain; his grandchildren, Jesse Thomas, Samantha Matthews, Kate Matthews, Audrey Matthews, Bradley Gilliam; and his mother-in-law Willie Miller.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers, Charles Gilliam, L.E. Gilliam and his sister, Shirley Dickert.
Danny had a quick wit, a heart for helping others, and was a loving husband, father, and Papa. He took great pride in his law enforcement work. He served for over 30 years with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, working his way up to the title of Major. During his time with the Sheriff’s Office he was awarded Deputy of the Year (Larry Bragg Award) for outstanding service and dedication to the citizens of Newberry County. He was also awarded Officer of the Year for dedicated service in the field of law enforcement in Newberry County by the Exchange Club. Danny was retired from the Army National Guard.

Pallbearers will be Justin Caudill, Bart Chapman, Rett Chapman, Carlton Chapman, Thomas Miller, and Cole Miller. The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Whitmire with burial to take place at Whitmire Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Whitmire on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire will be assisting the family with services.
