David Holland passed away peacefully at his home in Clinton. David was born in 1950 in Laurens County Hospital to John Bluford, a farmer, and to Agnes Murphy Holland, a teacher. It was she who gave David a love of family history. David attended Clinton public schools.
He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Moye of Birmingham Al and Mary Ann Burdette of Laurens and by a brother, Johnny B. Holland (Judy) of Clinton. He is also survived by two nieces and five nephews. David was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Clinton. He was appreciated in the community as a talented gardener and nature lover. A circle of his dear friends and family members mourn David’s passing. Whenever his family or neighbors had questions about local history, they always asked David.
He was a devoted caregiver and travel partner to his mother after her retirement. His family will remember David as his mother’s devoted caregiver and travel companion.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM October 15, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Clinton.
There will be a private graveside service at Langston Baptist Church, named for David’s ancestor Solomon Langston. Solomon’s daughter Dicey famously rode a horse over the hills and hollows, warning settlers, “The British are coming.” David’s will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
