David Thomas Pitts Jr., 76, of Clinton died on Saturday, August 15, 2020.
Born in Laurens County, Mr. Pitts had worked as a computer programmer at Ceramtec and Mitsubishi. He was educated at Clemson University in Applied Mathematics and Industrial Management. He is a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
David served as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Clinton where he was a long-time member. He took great pleasure in his family, the many friendships he made throughout his life, and his adventures in the world. He never met a stranger, forgot a face, or missed the opportunity to tell a story. He was a voracious reader, retaining much of what he learned and weaving it together in new, complex ways for those around him. As a skilled woodworker he made many fine geometric sculptures. He loved cats, rocks, and wood and collected some of each. He was raised on the family farm in Joanna and carried a deep connection to animals, gardening, and the outdoors his entire life.
Survivors include his son, Thom Pitts and wife Joanna; daughter Emily Ennis and husband Ian; sisters Jane Smith and Sallie Floyd; grandchildren Mary, Kristen, and Astrid; and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Crystal Pitts; mother Eva Storey Pitts; and father David Pitts Sr.
David’s private funeral service is now available for viewing on his Gray Funeral Home tribute page. He is buried in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held when it becomes safe for friends and family to travel, gather, and break bread together. May he live on in the stories we share, the simple joys of life, and the mischievous expression that comes before a really great joke.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, P. O. Box 29, Clinton, SC 29325.
