Dorothy Cox Holmes, age 85 of Waterloo, SC passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.
Dorothy was born January 14, 1927 in Spartanburg, SC and was the daughter of the late Walker Erwin and Anita Leonard Cox. She married William Osbourne Holmes on February 1, 1947 in Spartanburg, SC. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC and also attended First Presbyterian in Greenwood, SC.
Dorothy graduated Converse College and went on to teach math for over 40 years at Park Hills Elementary in Spartanburg, SC.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. At her house you were always welcomed with a warm smile, a huge hug and a kitchen filled with the best homecooked food you could imagine. She was always ready (most of the time with a paintbrush in hand) to help with any project a friend or family member had going on. She will be truly missed by anyone that was blessed enough to have known her.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Mike and Jenny Holmes of Campobello, SC, Donna and David Holmes of Waterloo, SC, Steve Holmes of Waterloo, SC and Mark and Denise Holmes of Joshua, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1st at the family’s home, 1540 Harris Springs Rd.,Waterloo,SC. In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the family’s cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, SC or a Charity of One’s choice.
