Dr. Kenneth W. Alexander, age 65, passed away July 18, 2012. Born October 16, 1946, Ken grew up in Union, SC. He graduated from Union High School in 1964, then graduated from Presbyterian College in 1968. Ken went on to earn Post Graduate Degrees from Appalachian State University and Clemson University to include a Doctorate of Education from South Carolina State University. Dr. Alexander was employed by Laurens County School District 55 from 1968 to 1992, serving as Principal of Laurens District High School from 1981 to 1992. He went on to become the Director of Middle and Secondary Education in Spartanburg School District 2 and also was Principal of Greenwood High School. Ken was currently serving as the Director of Adult Education for Laurens County. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra G. Alexander of the home; two sons, Greg Alexander (Julie) of Laurens; grandchildren, Noah and Gabby Alexander; and Jon Alexander (Amy) of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Jon Matheson, Thomas, Lily Cathryn and Jackson Alexander and sisters, Carolyn Lawson and husband, Maxie, Beth Wilson and husband, Gene and Lea Ann Fox and fiancé, Billy Tessinger.
Ken was the son of the late Thomas L. Alexander and Marian A. Alexander.
A private committal service will be followed by a memorial service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home of Laurens.
