Dr. Robert Joseph Grube, 79, of 305 Edenburgh Circle, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2007.
Born in St. Augustine, Florida, he was the son of Alice Louise Johnson and James Harry Grube. He grew up at the Thornwell Home in Clinton, S.C. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina in 1950. Dr. Grube was also a graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina in 1955. He began his private practice as a General Practitioner in Camden, South Carolina and then practiced medicine for many years in Clinton.
Dr. Grube served as Chief of Staff at Bailey Memorial Hospital, President of the Laurens County Medical Association, and was on the Board of Admissions at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served in other community and volunteer capacities. He was an avid golfer at Lakeside Country Club for many years and enjoyed spending time on the South Carolina coast. His greatest joy came with spending time with his wife and family. He was the loved physician and friend to many in Clinton and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Fay Pitts Grube, of Clinton; a son, Robert J. Grube, Jr. and his wife Susan of Jacksonville, Florida; his daughter Susie Grube Pulliam and her husband, Jay, of Columbia, SC; his daughter, Lynn Grube Wellman and her husband, Michael of Columbia, SC; and his daughter Nancy Grube Koeniguer and her husband Mark of St. Louis, Mo. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Rachel and Erin Grube; Mike, Ben and Zach Wellman; and Grant and Nicole Koeniguer.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Grube McNelis and his brother, Second Lieutenant James H. Grube.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton SC, on Friday, February 16 and 2:00 pm with a reception in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. There will be a private family graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Thornwell Home, The First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
