Earl Clifford Rice of Clinton South Carolina, Died Mar 2, 2017.
Mr. Rice was born April 3, 1923, in Clinton, S.C. He was the son of the late Mrs. Irene Jordon Rice and Mr. Ernest James Rice of Clinton, S.C. He graduated from Laurens High School in 1942, served in the Navy during world War II, and graduated from Erskine College in 1949. Earl retired from Anderson Hosiery Company in 1986 after 37 years of service.
Mr. Rice was a dedicated member of the Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church who served as a Deacon and as an Elder of the Church. He was also elected as Clerk of the Church Session, where he served for many years and represented the Church at Synod. Mr. Rice also taught the men’s Bible Class for many years and was active on several committees of the Church.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Clinton Exchange Club where he served as President, Secretary and also on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Clinton American Legion Post, where he served as Post Commander and also as Post Chaplain. Mr. Rice was also a member of Lakeside Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors and also served on the Board of Trustees.
Surviving are his daughter Ame Rice Sanders, a granddaughter Karla Branham, a grandson Pablo Ellison, and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Rice is also survived by his sister Betty Lou Vaughan and his brother Ernest James Rice, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Rice was predeceased in death by his daughter Jenny Rice Spigner and by his wife Martha Owings Rice to whom he was married for 52 years.
A memorial service will be held at Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, at 701 S. Broad St. in Clinton, S.C. at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
