Edgar Owens Sadler

Owens Sadler age 83, of 496 Dogwood Circle and husband of Nancy McMillan Sadler, died Wednesday, July 27th at the Hospice House in Clinton.
Mr. Sadler was born in Clinton, SC and was a son of the late Rufus Earle and Julia Owens Sadler. Upon graduating Clinton High School in 1944, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served with the 6th Division “China Marines” until his discharge in 1946. He then met and married Nancy McMillan of Laurens in 1948 and graduated Presbyterian College in 1951. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean War where he received several decorations including the Bronze Star. He continued in the active reserve, retiring in 1985 with the rank of Colonel.
Mr. Sadler managed and was a partner in the Home Wholesale Company, formerly Laurens District Company, a family business. He retired in 1987 and he and Nancy began traveling in their R.V. all over the U.S. They also cruised extensively, circling the globe many times.
Ed was formerly a member of the Laurens Rotary, was a charter member and past President of the Clinton Rotary and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was President of the S.C. Reserve Officers Association in the bicentennial year 1976.
Mr. Sadler was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church Clinton, where he was active in the Pep Club and Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, a brother, Rufus (Mary) Sadler, and five nieces, Sarah Turnipseed (Bill), Julie McCrae, Jinki Suber (Andy), Nancy Mitchell (Mac), and Patsy Sadler Hughes (Walt) and their families.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by a sister, Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton with burial in the church cemetery.
