Edward “Ed” Parrison Dixon, Jr., age 80, of Laurens, widower of Mary Evelyn “Eve” Shirley Dixon, passed away, Friday, January 3, 2025 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 14, 1944 in Hartsville, SC and was the son of the late Edward Parrison Dixon, Sr. and Inez Gainey Dixon. Edward was a graduate of Hartsville High School and furthered his education by earning a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College. Mr. Dixon proudly served his country in the US Army from June 22, 1962 – October 31, 1984, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Following his career in the military, he served 22 years for the US Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster of the Greenwood Post Office. He was past Master of the Cross Hill Masonic Lodge #369 and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Grand Patron from 2007 to 2008. Ed was a devoted member of Bellview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Robert “Bobby” Newman and wife, Teri, of Spartanburg; his three daughters, Becky O’Riley and husband, Butch, of Missouri, Anita Dixon of Spartanburg, and Angela Franklin of Inman; his brother, Don Dixon of Hartsville; his twelve grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Payton; his brothers, Van Colon Hopkins and Earl Dixon; and his sisters, Dianne Catoe and Valerie Hopkins.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens with Rev. Darren Rood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellview Baptist Church, 757 Bellview Church Road, Laurens, SC 29360 or the Shriners Hospital for Children – Greenville, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
