Emilie G. Marchant died Monday, January 07, 2013 at her home.
Emilie was born in Ithaca, New York to Gostan and E.L. Rose Gostanian. Emilie is survived by her husband, T. Eston Marchant of Sanford, NC; her sister, Christine Prysmont; her brother, Frederick Gostanian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emilie was a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and held several teaching and administrative positions in New York, South Carolina and North Carolina. After her diagnosis with little understood and hard to treat pancreatic cancer, she became a vocal advocate for those suffering with the deadly illness. She served as the South Carolina Coordinator of the local chapter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. In this position she organized awareness campaigns, vigils, fund raising events and participated in several trips to Washington, DC to help raise the profile of the disease. Closer to home, Emilie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, the Laurens County Humane society and the Laurens County Master Gardner Association.
A celebration of Emilie’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton on Thursday, January 10th, at 2:00 P.M.
