Eric L. Burkhalter

Eric L. Burkhalter, age 72, of 1858 Martins Lake Rd, Gray Court, SC passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at his home.
He was born on May 26, 1944 in Grenada, West Indies and was a son of the late Lawrence and Kathleen Mason Burkhalter.
Mr. Burkhalter was retired from Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, SC, served in the British Navy and was a member of the Warrior Creek Baptist Church. He married Deborah (Debbie) Maret Meeler on April 2, 1977.
His Scottish heritage was very important to him and he enjoyed attending the Highland games until his health declined. He was a member of the Clan MacGregor Society. One of his proudest and happiest moments was when he received his citizenship on September 3, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Debbie) Maret Burkhalter of 39 years; his children, Eric G. R. Burkhalter of Greenville, Josephine (Spencer) Brown of Greenville, April Meeler Mack of Greenwood, Lesley (Stan) Meeler Calhoun of Greenwood; his grandchildren, Whitney (Chad) McFall of Charlotte, NC, Lauren Stewart of Woodruff, Petty Officer Luke Cochran of Norfolk, VA, Mason Mack of Greenwood, Landon Mack of Greenwood, Taylor Moore of Greenwood, Alex Harte of Woodruff, Blake Brown of Greenville, Heaven (Michael) Kuzmin of Greenville; his brothers, Larry (Sherry) Burkhalter of Newville, AL, Greg (Debbie) Moore of Corinth, MS; his sisters, Debbie (Mike) Kinard of Clinton, Nancy Brock of Greer, and Christy (Bill) Foster of Laurens.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael A. Burkhalter and his sister, Madelyn Burkhalter.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 2nd at 4 PM at Warrior Creek Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends before the service from 3 to 4 PM at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Warrior Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 139 Cum Laude Way, Gray Court, SC 29645.
