Ernest (Ernie) W. Killingsworth, Jr. entered into eternal rest on March 24, 2008 in Clinton, SC.
He was the son of Ernest W. Killingsworth Sr. and Henrietta S. Killingsworth. He was born in Charleston on August 4, 1944.
Ernie lived and worked at Whitten Center in Clinton, SC. He worked many different jobs but his most rewarding and favorite job was as P.T. transporter, taking boys and girls for physical therapy. He participated in the Special Olympics for many years winning first place in the 25 meter swimming competition. He won numerous other awards. He also enjoyed traveling, going to church and playing the hand bells.
He was loved by many and his beautiful, spontaneous smile will be missed by family and friends.
Ernie is survived by his parents and four siblings, Brenda K. Staley and husband, Dr. Grant Staley, Sally K. Weise and husband, Stephen Weise, Sarah K. Peterson and husband, Robert Peterson, Jim Killingsworth and wife, Carol; five nephews; and two nieces.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 27th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Chapel in Charleston with interment to follow in the gardens.
A service will be held in memory of Ernie at a later date at Whitten Center Chapel in Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whitten Center Parents Club, c/o Glen Bledsoe, P.O. Box 239, Clinton, SC 29325 or Bethany United Methodist Church, 1853 Maybank Hwy., Charleston, SC 29412.
