Eugene C. King, age 86, of 100 Glendale Manor Drive died Saturday, April 25, 2009 in the Laurens County Hospital.
Mr. King was born in Clinton, SC and was the son of the late William G. and Poise Adair King. He was married to the late Virginia Carswell.
He attended Presbyterian College and Clemson University before being called to WWII. Mr. King was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Europe in the 45th Division of the 157th Infantry Battalion. He received the Bronze Service Arrowhead, Eamet Campaign Ribbon with five Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medallion, Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. After returning home from the war, he married Martha Davis. Together they had four children.
He is survived by three daughters, GeeGee Benton and her husband, Will of Grovetown, GA, Anita Moore and her husband, Floyd, Jr. of Cross Hill, SC and Mary Phillips King of Plum Branch, SC; a sister, Robbie Cruickshanks and her husband, Alex III of Clinton, SC; four grandchildren, Brandon Moore, Josh Moore, David Benton, and Deidra Youngerman; and four great grandchildren, Brooke Moore, Ninian Fisher, Matthew Youngerman, and Terry Youngerman; and his close personal friend, Francis Roache.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Martha Mae King and a brother, W.G. King, Jr.
Mr. King was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Clinton, SC. He was a wonderful dad and granddaddy and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church with interment in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Moore, Horace Gambrell, Marshall Seward, Scott Taylor, Michael Cruickshanks, Alexander Cruickshanks, Mike Reddeck, G. Ramage, and David Ramage. Honorary pallbearers are the VIMS of Broad Street United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at the Broad Street United Methodist Church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
