Fay Pitts Grube, 84, a long time resident of Clinton, SC passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina. Fay was born on April 29, 1928, in Clinton, SC to William Roy and Lydie (Simpson) Pitts. She grew up in Clinton and following her high school graduation, she then graduated from Winthrop College. After college, she married her high school sweetheart Robert Joseph Grube. They lived in Charlotte, Charleston, and Camden before settling down in Clinton where Robert was a physician. Fay was very active in local charities including the Ladies Auxiliary at Bailey Memorial Hospital and at First Presbyterian Church. Fay was on the Clinton City Council for several years. She taught school in Clinton and also was a substitute teacher for many years. She enjoyed sewing club, book club, bridge club, tennis, and gardening. Fay and Robert had four children and she cherished spending time with all of them.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Grube, and five brothers: William Roy Pitts, Jr., Lewis Paschal Pitts, Earl Pitts, Fred Pitts, and Charles Pitts.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Susie Pulliam and husband Jay of Columbia, SC; Lynn Wellman and husband Mike of Madison, CT; Nancy Koeniguer and husband Mark of Chesterfield, Missouri; and one son, Robert Joseph Grube Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren: Mike Wellman Jr. and wife Kate, Ben Wellman, Zachary Wellman, Grant Koeniguer, Nicole Koeniguer, Rachel Grube, and Erin Grube Michaels and husband Craig.
She is also survived by one brother, Harold Pitts of Greensboro NC.
The memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, SC, on Wednesday January 2, 2013 at 11 o’clock. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall after the service. A private family burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Clemie Anderson for her special care and love of Mrs. Grube for many years, and also the staff of the Presbyterian Communities of SC for their care of Mrs. Grube.
In lieu of flowers, one may make a contribution to the Presbyterian Communities of SC or First Presbyterian Church of Clinton.
