Frances King Wasson of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, formerly of 801 Chestnut Street passed away at the age of 95. She was the wife of the late Judge J. Hewlette Wasson, Sr.
She was born in the Fork Shoals community of Greenville County, her parents were the late John Washington and Carrie Woodson King.
She graduated from Asheville Teachers College and taught school for 30 years in Greenville and Laurens schools. Following retirement from teaching she assisted in her husband’s law practice until his death. She was a member of the Laurens First Presbyterian Church.
She is Survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James Hewlette and Sally Bonds Wasson and John King and Panky Smoak Wasson; grandchildren, J. Hewlette Wasson, III and Dori Wasson Jenrette, sister, Sara King Wasson and sister-in-law, Jackie Gentry Wasson.
She was predeceased by an infant son, two brothers, Ralph Ligon King, Sr. and William Norman King, and a sister, Edna King Frasier.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Rasor Chapel at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center. The family will receive friends following the service in the Cooper Dining Hall.
