Gerry S. Crisp
Beloved matriarch Geraldine Shepherd Crisp went to be with her Savior on Sunday, November 21, 2010. Born in Lewistown, Montana on October 2, 1920, she was the only child of Earl Christopher and Mary Clark Shepherd.
Growing up in “God’s Country” she enjoyed snow skiing, rodeos, and flying. During her college years she spent summers working at Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park. After graduating from the University of Montana, she worked in the Clerk of Courts office in Great Falls and then moved to Beverly Hills, working in Hollywood. Her pioneer spirit then led her to Boston where she worked at the Parker House Hotel, and it was there that she met Carl Bryson Crisp (1906-2004). They married on March 11, 1949, honeymooned for eight months in Hana, Hawaii, and then settled on a ranch in the Deer Lodge Valley of Montana where four of their children were born. After four years they moved to Carl’s native Mountville, South Carolina where they purchased a dairy farm, had two more children, and busily spent the next 30 years. Mrs. Crisp worked as the food service director for the District 56 schools and then Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton for many years. After retirement they moved to Saluda, North Carolina so Gerry could be near her beloved mountains.
She treasured every moment she spent with her six children: Neil (Ann) Crisp of Mountville, Becky (David) Willett of Fountain Inn, Cindy (Dennis) Wilson of Mountville, Monty Crisp of Victoria, British Columbia, Mandy ( Tommy) Watts of Mountville, and Zana (David) Evans of Greenwood. She leaves 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-granddaughter, Riley Leanne Crisp.
Throughout her lifetime, her keen mind and amazing memory were directed toward her interest in people, politics, sports, letter writing, exquisite needlework, opera, “having tea”, and just visiting. The legacy of faith in Jesus Christ that Carl and Gerry Crisp imbedded deep in their family will continue for generations to come. We, the family, thank our parents for their sacrificial love and complete devotion to their faith, family, and friends.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24th at Hartness-Thornwell Presbyterian Church in Clinton with visitation continuing at the Crisp Family Home on Highway 72 in Mountville.
No flowers, please. Suggested donations to Calvary Chapel of Greenwood (2024 Woodlawn Road, Greenwood, SC 29649).
