Gertrude (Trudy) Bell Reynolds, 100, of Whitmire, SC, passed away November 25, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Jesse Rutledge and Effie Sewell Bell; her husband, Clifford M. Reynolds; her sister, Louise Bell Baker; her brother, Dr. John W. Bell; and nephew, Lt. Jesse R. Baker.
Trudy was born on October 2, 1916, in Due West, SC. She graduated from Erskine College and served with the United States Naval Reserve WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) program during World War II and was stationed in Washington, DC. Trudy spent the remainder of her career as a music teacher in SC public schools. She was a longtime member of Whitmire Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. In addition to volunteering, Trudy had a passion for music and enjoyed traveling and playing the organ and piano.
Trudy is survived by many nieces and nephews: Edgar Baker, Nita Lawrence, Dr. Trudy Skowron, Dr. John Bell, Philip Bell, Mary Ann Bell and Sally Evans.
The graveside memorial service will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11 o’clock am at Due West APR Church, 112 N. Main Street in Due West, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Whitmire Presbyterian Church, 1509 S. Church Street, Whitmire, SC, 29178.
