G. Richard Johnson, age 71 of 929 Fairview Church Road has run his last race and crossed the finish line into the arms of Jesus.
He was born in Kinards , December 23, 1939 and was a son of the late James Earl and Myrtle Llewellyn Johnson. He worked for Flour Daniel and in 1980 opened and operated his own shop, Johnson’s Automotive Machine Shop; was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and the Outreach Sunday School Class; he was a sponsor of the Good News Club at Joanna Woodson School and a veteran of the National Guard.
Richard was Tech Director for USDBA and was #1 in US for 4 cylinder race engine building.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Patterson Johnson of the home, a special great-grandson, Gage McCroskey of Greenville, raised in the home most of his life, son, Jackie Johnson and wife, Charlotte, of Clinton, daughter, Debbie Johnson of Kinards, step-son, Michael Wayne Templeton of Rock Springs, GA and step-daughter, D'Andrea Calliham and husband Michael of Greenwood; two brothers, Kenneth Johnson and wife, Mary Ann of Greensboro, GA and Frank E. Johnson of Kinards; grandchildren: Christy Knowlton and husband, David of Indian Harbor Beach, FL, Richard Brandon Lewis of Clinton, Erica Nicole Lewis of Kinards, Robert M. McCroskey, Jr. and wife, Chrystal of Greenville, Nikki Irvin and husband Andrew of Mt.Pleasant and Sally Holly and husband, Shawn of Greenville, Ian McCroskey and wife Megan of Hawaii, and four great-grandchildren, Gavin Jones, Hudson Holly and Ryann McCroskey all of Greenville.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 1st at 2:00 p.m. in Fairview Baptist Church of Kinards with burial in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home of Clinton.
