Hack Prater, 83, loving husband of 59 years to Catherine “Cat” Flow Prater, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2009.
Born in Joanna, SC on March 22, 1926, Hack was the son of the late Louie and Lillie Mae Prater.
Mr. Prater served in the US Navy during World War II. He then graduated from Erskine College and taught and coached in Laurens County Schools for almost 40 years.
Mr. Prater was a devoted and active member of Epworth Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: a son, Jack Prater, and his wife, Beth, of Villa Rica, GA.; a daughter, Julie Prater Hund, and her husband, Tom, of Charleston, SC; six grandsons, Jake, Cason, Josh, and Caleb Hund of Charleston and Zack and Chase Prater of Birmingham, AL; three step granddaughters, Carrie, Kathryn, and Leigh Anne Palmer of Georgia; two sisters, Marie Roebuck and Betty Nabors of Joanna; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Rudy, Snow, and Guy Prater.
A celebration of Mr. Prater’s life will be held on Saturday, May 23 at Epworth Methodist Church, 305 Magnolia St., Joanna. The family will receive friends at the church at 1:00 PM prior to the service at 2:00.
