Hallie Byrd Howard

Hallie Byrd Howard, 95, died peacefully of natural causes in her residence at the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina on April 26, 2018. She was born in Calhoun Falls, SC on October 14, 1922, to Hallie May Byrd and Wilbur Johnson Blake. She attended college at Winthrop College. After college she married the love of her life, William Grady Howard. She and William moved several times during his service in the Navy, and eventually settled in the Washington, DC area where she raised her two daughters Patricia and Hallie. She was devoted to her family, and later in her life she and William raised their grandchildren Travis and Jessica, even delaying their retirement to raise them as their own children. After they retired, Hallie and William returned to South Carolina to be with family and friends at the Presbyterian Home. Hallie was a devoted mother and was the example of strength and resilience throughout her life. Preceding her in heaven are her parents Hallie and Wilbur, husband William, daughter Hallie, and her siblings Annette Blake, Wilbur Blake, Irvin Blake, and Dorothy McCain. Surviving Hallie are her daughter Patricia, her two grandchildren Travis and Jessica and two great-grandchildren Ryan and Jonathan. A private graveside memorial service will be held May 18, 2018. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
