Rev. J.B. (Jot) Abercrombie, age 92 and lifelong resident of Laurens County passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 in the Laurens County Hospice House.
He was born in Clinton and was a son of the late Henry Powers and Herberta Mae Mitchell Abercrombie.
Rev. Abercrombie was a graduate of Presbyterian College. He pastored many Baptist churches, Welcome, Bellview, Temple and served as interim pastor at Rosemont, Lucas Avenue, Emerald, Welcome and Bellview churches and at his death was serving Waterloo Baptist Church. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII.
Rev. Abercrombie is survived by his two sons, Charles “Tony” Abercrombie and wife, Beth of Columbia and Robert “Buddy” Henry Abercrombie and wife, Yolanda of Summerville; two daughters, Mary Gregory and husband, Melvin of Anderson and Dianne Powell and husband, Gary of Greer; ten grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cleo Campbell Abercrombie, brothers, Jessie Abercrombie, Leon Abercrombie, William “Billy” Abercrombie and grandson, Matthew Abercrombie.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m. at the Waterloo Baptist Church with graveside services and burial at the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home of Laurens.
