James N. “Rope” O’Shields, 79, of 8 Piedmont Street, Lyman passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joyce Estes O’Shields.
He was born in Whitmire SC and was the son of the late J.B. and Alice Ballard O’Shields, and brother of Sharon Whiteford.
A native of Clinton (LM) Mr. O’Shields was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and was retired from Jackson Mill in Wellford, SC. He attended the Lydia Mill Church of God and was a black belt in Karate – Shoto Ken – Shuri-ryu.
He is survived by five children; Michael O'Shields of Florida, Tracy Belknap of Florida, Teresa O'Shields Vaughn (Dr. Kenneth) of Spartanburg, Bobby O’Shields (Shelena) of Duncan, Gene O’Shields of Lyman; his sister, Mickey Riley (Ray) of Clinton; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1:30 PM at the Lydia Mill Church of God with interment at Pinelawn Memory Garden with Military Honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the church.
