James Olin Simmons, Sr. age 89, a resident of Canon, GA passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at his home.
He was born in Abbeville, SC and was a son of the late Henry and Essie Owens Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was retired from textiles and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. He attended the New Franklin Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 92 Lavonia.
He is survived by a son, Jim Simmons (Wanda) of Canon, GA; a daughter, Valerie Ratliff (Bill) of Simpsonville; two brothers, Harold Simmons of Union and Gene Simmons of Clinton; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Simmons was predeceased by his wife, Betty Ann Simmons, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 2 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends on Saturday before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home.
