It is with great sadness, but with indestructible hope, that the family of James Clyde Turbeville, Jr. announces his passing on April 5, 2019. He was born on November 9, 1932 to James Clyde and Doris Pond Turbeville. He grew up in Camden, South Carolina and graduated from Camden High School and the University of South Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Martin Turbeville and their three children - the Reverend Dean Turbeville (Nancy), Jenni Turbeville Wilson (Andy) and Rebecca Turbeville Anderson (Robert). He was known as “T-Daddy” to his nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Clyde was predeceased by his best friend and brother, Horace Turbeville.
Clyde served in the United States Air Force and had a successful career in the insurance industry. He worked for many years with the South Carolina Farm Bureau before moving to Chicago to be the Manager of American Agricultural Re-insurance Company, and he finally retired as the CEO of the Indiana Farm Bureau. He and his “sweetie”, Peggy, were avid travelers who enjoyed collecting local art found during their travels. Clyde was also a lifelong fisherman and a competent chef who was known for his generosity and gift of hospitality. He had a sharp wit and was a gifted storyteller, and he loved Gamecock sports -- especially baseball.
The Lord was faithful to lead him into an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ in his later years. He looked forward to attending Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Clinton, SC and began each day by reading his Bible and praying for his family and friends. He was adored by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family is comforted that they will be together again in heaven, in the presence of the Lamb who loved him and gave Himself for him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Laurens County Hospice and the exceptional care given to Clyde in his last days by Alicia, Carolyn, and Laura.
A visitation of family and friends will occur on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 3 to 5 PM in the home at 7200 Highway 76 W, Laurens, SC 29360.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Quaker Cemetery in Camden.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to 1 John 3 Ministries at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Clinton, SC.
