James Barth “JB” Vanderford, age 84, widower of Shirley Vanderford, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home.
He was born in Lockhart, SC and was the son of the late Barth and Pearl Wright Vanderford. Rev. JB as many knew him, was a Church of God Preacher for many years and spent his life devoted to sharing and preaching God’s Word. He also proudly served his country for 43 years as a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He was a Little League Coach and Umpire but also enjoyed playing softball and played in the New York World Series. He was an avid bowler and had a great affection for gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Calvert (Dale) and Darlene Sherfield (Tommy); his grandchildren, James Hurley, Janice Price, Tonya Marshall (Jeremy), Lamar Hurley (Tina) and T.J. Sherfield (Dee); his great-grandchildren, Summer Avinger (Stephen), Autumn Hurley (Jay), Emily Kellum, Madison Hurley, Tabbatha Bull (Adam), Lee Vanderford (Brittany), D.J. Eaton (Ashlee), M.J. Gaffney (Mallory), Harley Hurley, Taylor Sherfield (Dray) and Halie Cook (Dean) Kaitlin Hurley, Bella Hurley, Kamryn Hurley, Jonathan Epting, Jr.; his great-great-grandchildren, Jaden Davis, Landon Davis, Kayde Vanderford, Kexin Eaton, Khloe Gaffney, Carson Cunningham; his sister, Eva Jo Crawford; his sisters-in-law, Juanita Vanderford and Louise Guyton; special friend, Wayne “Bo” Ballew; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother, Donnie Vanderford brother-in-law, Adgar Crawford, Jr., and his granddaughter, Lacon Eaton.
Funeral service will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 2 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton. Burial will take place at Pinelawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3230 Puckett Ferry Road, Mountville, SC 29332.
