James Duncan Black, age 60 of 16828 Hwy 76 W. died Saturday, Mar. 24th at his home.
He was born in Wilmington, Delaware and was a son of the late Matthew D. and Ada Tipton Black.
Mr. Black was employed as a welder and pipe fitter with B.F. Shaw for 33 years; served as a volunteer firefighter and E.M.T. for 30 years with the Hickory Tavern Fire Department and was presently served as Battalion Fire Chief. He also was a member of the Faiths Works Ministry.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Faye Proctor Black; a son, David James Black; four daughters, Davajean Ashley, Melissa Patton, Connie Rachels, Cindy Connolly; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Mar.29th at 2:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Laurens with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Hudson, Lance Roper, Brian Mchone, Chris Aylesworth, Bill Betterley, Chris Ludbrook, T.J. Deeble and Heath Eaton.
Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Hickory Tavern Fire Department, Buddy and Nell Jean Swanson, Chip Swanson, Thomas and Judy Stevenson, Wayne and Cyndi Dyal, Billy Smith, Robert Lollis, Fred (Wormy) Tollison, Skip Howard, Dannis Williams, Dan Vess, Rabbit Harris, Mike Simmons, Skitter Simmons, Sanford (Whitey) Murphy, Bruce Simmons.
