James “Jimmy” Coats, 59 of 415 Family Place, died Monday, February 15, 2010.
He was born in Laurens and was a son of Betty Cleveland Coats of Laurens and the late James Julian “J.J.” Coats, Jr.
He was employed with Gray Funeral Home for over 30 years; was a member and former Deacon of First Baptist Church of Clinton, where he took part in local and foreign mission work in Russia and Puerto Rico and was a former Board member of the Laurens Home for the Aged.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Lowe Coats of the home; one son, James Cale Coats and wife, Shanna of Laurens; two daughters, Jill Coats Adair and husband, Erskine of Clinton and Caroline Coats Hunt and husband, John of Eatonton, GA; one sister, Elizabeth Alice Coats Rhodes and husband, Danny of Laurens; grandchildren, Brett Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Kayla Mitchell, Cale Coats, Jr., MariAustin Adair, Ella Adair and Samuel Hunt.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 18th at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Blake Harwell and Rev. Dr. Russell Dean with burial in Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home.
