James Henry Ammons, Sr. (Poke), age 82, of 1579 Leesville Church Road, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Laurens County Hospital
He was born in Clinton and was a son of the late William Herbert and Sadie Elizabeth Evans Ammons.
Mr. Ammons was retired from United Insurance Company of America,
was a member of Bellview Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Holder Ammons of the home; a daughter, Patricia Kitchens and her husband, Barry of Clinton; a son, James Henry Ammons, Jr. of Clinton; and grandchildren, Tanya Meade and husband Scott, and Jason Kitchens, both of Clinton; and three great grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Meade, and Abagail Kitchens.
Mr. Ammons was predeceased by a brother, Elison Ammons of Florida, and two sisters, Catherine Womble and Henrietta Dover, both of Clinton.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 21st at 2:00 p.m.
at Bellview Baptist Church by Rev. Barry James and Rev. Jot Abercrombie with burial in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the burial at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bellview Baptist Church Building Fund.
