James Lee Brown, age 87 formerly of Joanna, SC died Thursday, October 16th at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
He was born in Royston, GA and was a son of the late Earcie and Cancie Higginbotham Brown.
Mr. Brown was the former owner and operator of Brown’s Grocery and a retired employee of Joanna Mills where he played baseball with the Joanna Textile League. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, an active and dedicated member of the Laurens County Shrine Club and Hejaz Shrine Temple, a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge and Bush River Community Center. Mr. Brown was a proud patriot having served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division in the European Theater. Mr. Brown will be remembered by his family as a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving are a son, Terry Brown and wife, Carolyn of Greenwood; a daughter, Debbie Brown and fiance , Cecil Kirkpatrick of Greenville; a very special friend, Irene Brooks of Bush River; three grandchildren, Darren Brown of Newberry, Kevin Brown of Charlotte, NC, Janie Seals of Joanna and five great grandchildren, Dustin, Jacob, Riley, Chandler and Jayden.
Mr. Brown was the last member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his wife, Macie Outz Brown and two brothers, Tom and Mack Brown.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 19th at 2:30 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church with burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of his son, Terry Brown, at 209 Ferry Cove Rd.
