Dateline – Laurens, SC
Jeanette Pennington Carlton, age 83, of 101 Old Airport Road, and widow of James David Carlton, Sr. passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
She was born in Barksdale, SC and was a daughter of the late George and Sara Lena Cisson Pennington.
Mrs. Carlton was a former employee of Torrington Bearing Company and the Laurens Shirt Plant and attended Eastside Baptist Church and First Assembly of God. She loved traveling with her husband with the Air Force and being a housewife. She will be remembered for artistic abilities and how she enjoyed bowling when she was able.
She is survived by her son, JC Carlton, Jr. (Sarah Matthews) of Clinton; her daughter, Debra Shepard (Keith) of Laurens; her sisters, Sara Hill of Gray Court, Louise Owens, Jean Jones, Dorothy Scott and Ellen Robertson, all of Laurens; and her brother, James Pennington of Laurens, grandchildren, Wendy Holman, Brad Carlton, James Carlton III, Beverly Spivey, Tim Wooten, Amy Hamilton, Kelly Hamilton, Melissa Taylor; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughters, Delores “Del” Carlton Saxon and Donna Hamilton; her sisters, Ruth Ford and Helen Pennington and her brother, Bill Pennington.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5th at 3 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with entombment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home of Laurens.
