Jeannette McCutchen Harvin, age 93, died on Saturday, July 4, 2009 after several months of loving care at the Hospice House of Laurens County. She had been a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, S.C. since August 1996, having moved there from her home in Seneca, S. C.. Born on December 11, 1915, in Florence, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Ladson Boone McCutchen and Emma Jane Gordon McCutchen. Jeannette was the widow of Stewart Ingram Harvin, Jr., her devoted husband of 54 years.
She was a graduate of Flora Macdonald College in North Carolina (now St. Andrews Presbyterian College) and taught in the Oconee County and Manning elementary school systems for 25 years. After her retirement she remained involved in the lives of young children through tutoring.
Jeannette served as an elder and deacon in the Seneca Presbyterian Church, was active in the Women of the Church, and taught Sunday school and the catechism for many years. She was also an affiliate member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Jeannette was an accomplished artist who also enjoyed gardening, reading, and bird watching.
She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her gentleness and kindness of spirit will be sorely missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her son Stewart I. Harvin, III, and wife Maria, Columbia, S. C.; daughters Jeannette L. Harvin, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Leila H. Klessmann, Bielefeld, Germany; Ladson H. Kesler and husband George, Hoschton, GA.; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Gordon McCutchen and sisters Hannah McCutchen Gilbert and Emma Gordon McCutchen Keels.
Graveside services will be held by the Rev. Dr. Joe Gettys at the Mountain View Cemetery in Seneca, S.C. on Friday, July 10th at 12:00 P.M.. A memorial service will be held by the Rev. Robert Brozina at the Presbyterian Home Chapel in Clinton, S. C. on Saturday, July 11th at 2:00 P.M.. Jeannette´s seven grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
